When drummer/vocalist Proscriptor McGovern ( Russ R. Givens ) disbanded Absu on January 27, 2020, his primary intention was to renew the formula of this 30-year-old formation. Proscriptor McGovern's Aps? is a natural product of the dissolution of Absu , and at the same time its new incarnation and direct continuation. The band's ranks are still filled by Proscriptor ( Absu : 1992-2020), bassist/vocalist Ezezu ( Absu : 2009-2020) and new members: guitar virtuoso Vaggreaz ( Possessed , Gruesome ) and keyboardist Vorskaath ( Zemial , Agatus ). The band's name, which is also the name of the album, comes from a fusion of the name of the band's leader and the never-released, last Absu album entitled ?Aps?? . The album contains the sound characteristic of the artist and his style, described as "mythological occult metal," enriched with elements of psychedelic music, fusion and vintage electronics.

The album was recorded in several different studios and the final mix was done in Dallas, Texas, alongside Proscriptor 'a and JT Longoria ( Absu , King Diamond , Solitude Aeternus ). Mastering was done by Swedish Grammy Award nominee Karl Daniel Lidén in Sweden. Guest appearances on the album include Ross Friedman ( Ross The Boss , ex- Manowar ), Rune Eriksen ( Aura Noir , Vltimas , ex- Mayhem ), Alex Colin-Tocquaine ( Agressor ) and The Dark ( Agatus ). The cover and graphic design were created by the esteemed Polish illustrator Zbigniew Bielak ( Darkthrone , Portal , Watain ).
