"Devotion" is the ninth studio album by Italian technical/brutal death metallers HOUR OF PENANCE .
"It's been almost five years since Misotheism [their last album] came out and we're finally ready to present our new work," comments HOUR OF PENANCE . "Devotion is our hymn to the futility of war. The album's central theme is the misguided devotion we, the people, have for our leaders who ruthlessly send us to our deaths under the guise of democracy, driven solely by imperialist ambition and greed. The faceless crowd on the cover worships the deformed statues of these false gods. Musically, the album builds on Hour of Penance's signature 20-year-old dynamic style and adds more catchiness and technical detail, interwoven with epic landscapes."
HOUR OF PENANCE plays technical and brutal death metal with a dark hue. The band formed in 1999 and is considered one of the most talented and intense representatives of the genre to come out of Italy. The band needed three albums to break out of their local nature and create a buzz on the international stage. Tours, apart from Europe, took them to the US, Canada, Australia and Asia, playing as support for bands such as Cannibal Corpse , The Black Dahlia Murder , Devildriver , Deicide , Nile and Behemoth .
HOUR OF PENANCE consistently develops their sonic identity through complex and crushing death metal played with surgical precision. Their trademarks are dizzying tempos, untamed brutality, and metaphors hidden in the visual and lyrical layers that refer to contemporary social issues.
The album "Devotion" was recorded in two Italian studios - Bloom and Kick . The album was mixed and mastered in Poland at Hertz Studio ( Vader , Decapitated , Behemoth ).
