AETERNUS was founded by Ares in 1993 in Bergen, Norway. The band is considered to be the creators of dark metal; a genre that combines black metal and death metal with elements of classical and folk music. AETERNUS's distinctive sound is based on expressive guitars and memorable, melodic interludes. In addition to guitarist and vocalist Ares , the lineup consists of guitarist Gorm , bassist Eld and drummer Phobos (former and current members of Gorgoroth , Immortal (live) and Gaahls Wyrd ).
"Philosopher" was recorded, produced and mixed by AETERNUS and Herbrand Larsen at Conclave and Earshot Studios ( Immortal , Enslaved ). Mastering was handled by Lawrence Mackrory of Rorysound Studio ( Bloodbath , Vomitory ). Cover art, illustrations and layout were painted by Mar.A. ( Cultes Des Ghoules , Deus Mortem ).
